Today I'm thrilled to share with you a few images from George and Bhavana's gorgeous fall wedding in beautiful New England. I love traveling for weddings, and this trip could not have gone any better. Bhavi dreamed of having a fall wedding complete with lots of outdoor portraits with the foliage....and that didn't exactly happen. The day of the wedding it was 45 degrees and raining, so a couple weeks after the wedding, we did a few more portraits at Turner Falls in southern Oklahoma, which brought the grand total up to three states (including engagements) I've photographed these two. Needless to say, I've got to know them very well and I really enjoyed experiencing my first Hindu wedding.
The day began with the Haldi ceremony, where friends and family rubbed turmeric paste on the couple. They then broke tradition and did a First Look, which was so romantic and we got some great portraits in the indoor courtyard area. Then they held their ceremony, which was so interesting.
The ceremony began with the guests passing the wedding rings around the room for good wishes. Then Bhavi's mother placed a red powder on George's forehead to welcome him into the family. There were numerous rituals throughout the ceremony including exchanging flower garlands, tying their shawl and veil together, and then circling a fire seven times while taking turns leading each other. Then, Bhavi's brothers offered her rice to throw into the fire, signifying prosperity. Finally, they exchanged rings and personalized vows.
Following the ceremony, they changed from their traditional Indian dress and arrived at the reception in a striking tux and gorgeous white gown. Their guests celebrated late into the evening and then they ended the night with a fun sparkler exit. Here are a few of my favorites.
