Jamie + Christian | Costa Rica Destination Wedding

50 years ago, a man named Elmer was working as a missionary in Costa Rica. One day, a little girl named Lorena came to his church. That day she became a Christian and she eventually met Elmer's daughter, Elnora. Elnora and Lorena became great friends.

Years later, Elmer moved his family back to the US. Elnora and Lorena both grew up and and started families of their own. Elnora had a daughter and named her Jamie and Lorena had a son and named him Christian. These two families kept in touch and occasionally spent time together when their children were young. Christian remembered Jamie as the little girl who used to terrorize the cats.

Even more years later, Christian and Jamie reconnected online and began dating long distance. There was a lot of emailing, Skyping, and the occasional flight to see one another. Having an ocean between you makes you get creative when you communicate.

November is the end of the rainy season in Costa Rica and it rains pretty much every afternoon. Outdoor weddings are quite uncommon at that time of year, so they married in the morning and spent the afternoon celebrating with their closest family and friends. The space they chose was quite lovely, and the trees surrounding the ceremony area were so tall you couldn't even see the tops.

Their wedding was quite an emotional day, as Jamie moved to Costa Rica to be with Christian, so her family said both "congratulations" and "goodbye until next time". The tears flowed as easily as the laughter. Jamie no longer terrorizes cats, in fact, we were visited by a very friendly cat when we did their couples portraits after the ceremony.

This wedding was one of the greatest highlights of my career. Jamie, thank you for inviting me to spend the day with you in a foreign country. I was treated so warmly and welcomed by everyone I encountered while there, including both of your wonderful families. Hank and I very much enjoyed our time there. We ate a lot of good food and took a lot of great naps. Here are a few of my favorites...
